Modular Design of Bioretention Systems for Sustainable Stormwater Management under Drivers of Urbanization and Climate Change

The increase in urbanization and climate change projections point to a worsening of floods urban river contamination. Cities need adopt adaptive drainage measures capable mitigating these drivers change. This study presents practical methodology for modular design bioretention systems incorporating land use into existing sizing methods. Additionally, sensitivity analysis methods was performed. applied case the city Sao Carlos, SP, Brazil. Three application scales were evaluated: property scale (PS), street (SS) neighborhood (NS) three temporal scenarios: current, 2015–2050 2050–2100. choice method factor with greatest influence on final performance, as it considerably affected surface areas designed, followed by hydraulic conductivity filtering media. When analyzing parameters each method, runoff coefficient daily precipitation 90% probability identified most sensitive parameters. For period 2050–2100, there an up 2×, 2.5× 4× inflow PS, SS NS, respectively. However despite great uncertainty future drivers, performance would remain almost constant periods due design.
